OUR PROCESS

FINANCIAL THERAPY

Money is inherently an emotional experience. Financial therapy is a research-informed process to help you change the way you think, feel, and behave around money. Our work helps individuals, couples, and families as they work through this emotional and psychological process.

FINANCIAL COUNSELING

Money requires certain skills to succeed in building your financial life. Knowing how to create a spending plan, use credit effectively, and understanding the impact of debt are all crucial to long-term financial health. Your journey with us may include some financial education and training in these areas.

FINANCIAL PLANNING

While we interact with money every day, we also need to prepare for our long-term futures. Financial health across the lifespan requires conversations around retirement, goals, and actual numbers of what it will take to achieve those dreams. Working with a financial planner is a big part of building that financial health.

WHAT TO EXPECT

1

INITIAL CONSULTATION

You will meet with our Founder and Financial Therapist Nate Astle to go over your concerns and challenges you are seeking help for. You and Nate will then come up with the best plan of action for you and go over logistics of working with us.

2

WORKING INSIDE OUT

Although everyone's needs are different, we generally recommend some cadence of regular financial therapy sessions to work on the emotional and relational apsects of money and identify mental blocks to change. We also recommend concurrent financial counseling sessions to build tolerance for basic money management skills and behavior. This first stage of change is typically 2-3 months long.

3

PLAN AND EXECUTE

When you feel comfortable making a long-term plan, you will meet with one of our financial planners to go over some of your more long-term goals including retirement, long-term saving, etc. This whole process is tailored for you and your needs. We don't sell any products or try to push any solution on you. This is your money journey, and we are honored to be a part of it.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • IS THIS LICENSED THERAPY? WHAT ABOUT A DIAGNOSIS?
Although several practitioners are licensed to provide therapy services in some states, all services received through the Financial Therapy Clinical Institute fall under a coaching contract. In other words, we wouldn't be able to diagnose you for medical purposes, or work with specific "high risk" clients experiencing severe suicidal or homicidal ideation, or in cases of child/elder abuse.
  • WHAT IS YOUR NEW CLIENT PROCEDURE?
It starts with you reaching out! By filling out the form below, or emailing admin@financialtherapyclinicalinstitute.com, we can get you started with a free consultation call to better understand your needs. Then we will send some intake forms to you and then you will begin the process shown above! Also feel free to check out the "Process" page above!
  • HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
We aim to make our services as affordable as possible, while appropriately valuing the work that we do. Your initial consultation is complimentary. In that meeting we will talk about your money story, and identify your session frequency with our financial therapists and financial counselors. About two - three months later, you'll meet with one of our financial planners. Once you are on the pathway that best fits your needs, we use a sliding fee scale based on household income to determine your billing rate. Every professional is only paid on a hourly rate, so you can be certain we get no commission for selling products. We have found our prices to be comparable to other therapy provider prices and cheaper than most financial professional prices. We hope to offer scholarships for lower income clients as the business grows. TOP: Household Income BOTTOM: Per hour cost
  • WHERE WILL THE SESSIONS BE HELD?
Sessions are entirely virtual, which allows us to work with people all over the country! You will get links to our sessions once you have completed your initial paperwork. Having a webcam with appropriate bandwidth is appreciated and expected. Phone appointments can be held as necessary.
  • CAN I CONTINUE TO WORK WITH AN OUTSIDE FINANCIAL PLANNER/COUNSELOR OR THERAPIST?
Of course! Fundamental to the ideology of FTCI is that collaboration is key to success. We are happy to work with outside professionals who already have a relationship with you. While we still request you to meet with each of our professionals at least once for a second opinion, we are happy to discuss your treatment with those professionals already on your team. We are not in the business of keeping you from the resources you already have.
